Back to School September is the month when kids are excited to start a new school year and find out who their classmates and new teachers are. Education is something many of us take for granted but going to school is not a given for many kids in the world. In Costa Rica for example, approximately 53000 teenagers should be in secondary school but are not registered. Often, the long commute to school and the lack of transportation are the reason for not going.
Bike to School Fundacion Tejedores de Sueños launched
“Al Cole en Bici” (Bike to School). The goal is to give 1000 bicycles to students so they can cycle to school. The bicycles will be donated to rural schools chosen by the Ministry of Public Education, who will in turn lend them to students who sign a contract for the proper use and care of the bicycle. Each bicycle comes with a helmet, repair kit, pump, and security vest.
